Descrizione
(Views of Italy) AN ALBUM CONTAINING 123 ENGRAVINGS DEPICTING ITALIAN VIEWS AND ORIGINAL COSTUMES.
(Italy, circa 1830).
Oblong folio (400 x 270 mm.), handsome contemporary green morocco binding, with gold and blind impressions on covers, and the initials “PT” (likely the anonymous traveler who put together this collection of plates/views). Altogether 47 not numb. leaves (mostly in colored paper, pink, hazel, bleu) on which have been pasted 123 engravings on copper and steel and litographies of various dimensions, mainly depicting views (several finely hand-colored) of the most important Italian towns, like Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and surroundings, Pisa, Naples and Pompei, plus some others depicting characteristic Roman costumes (and from other places), including 10 beautiful watercolors heightened in gold, but also paintings and frescoes of Italian arts. A very attractive album, certainly assembled on the occasion of the Grand Tour by a French traveler (since the captions of the places are in French).
