ANONYMOUS – Four views of Lake Como: Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, Bellagio, Torno, Villa Taverna and Varenna.
First half of the 19th century.
Lithograph and aquatint, watercoloured
The moving and articulated shape, the seductive landscapes, the rich and luxuriant vegetation and the indulgent climate are just some of the characteristics of Lake Como and its surroundings, which has always been considered a place of exceptional beauty. For centuries it was the favorite place of the Milanese and Lombard nobility who chose its banks to establish summer residences and villas of delight, giving the environment the additional attraction of architecture, art and nature redesigned in the vast gardens. These four engravings, finely watercoloured, which portray some of the most evocative places of the Lario, remind us of the quiet and peaceful atmosphere that visitors of the early nineteenth century must have felt when visiting its shores and admiring the majestic villas that overlooked it.
