CECCHI, G. Battista, and CARBONI, Matteo – A collection of 24 views of Florence.
Florence: Giuseppe Bardi, s.d. (circa 1800).
Obl. 4to (248×360 mm.), contemporary green wrappers with engraved title on editorial paper label pasted on upper cover, spine covered with brown marbled paper, internally clean and in good condition. An interesting and complete series of 24 plates, all of them within an engraved framed, depicting view of Florence, with engraved text in Italian and French at bottom of each made by Matteo Carboni e Giovan Battista Cecchi, and mainly inspired to subjects of Giuseppe Zocchi (openly quoted in the copperplates, at left, as the author of the drawings), but also of Cosimo Rossi, Giuseppe Puliti and Giuseppe Terreni. This set was often called “Zocchi piccolo” (small Zocchi) in comparison to the much larger series of Zocchi himself (see the previous item in this catalogue).
Edited probably by Giuseppe Bardi around 1800, according Mori-Boffito, 95, who describes the copy in the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence, with only 20 plates, while instead Moreni, II, 223 and Bigazzi, n° 5284, 191 are citing copies with 23 plates; still according Mori-Boffito, around 1830 this series was reprinted by Bardi. This copy appears to be an early issue, with printer’s name in the last 4 plates (“In Firenze presso Giuseppe Bardi”) stitched as issued and without any printed title.
