(Grand Hotel Danieli)FONTANA, GIANIACOPO – Della patrizia famiglia Bernardo e del loro palazzo sulla Riva degli Schiavoni ora Hotel Royal. Venice 1845. (From the “Giornale di scienze, lettere e arti).
8vo (210 x 134 mm.), contemporary blue wrappers, with bookplate of an early collection, 1 engraved plate, depicting the front view of the “Grand Hotel Royal Danieli a Venise”, and 4 leaves of text, describing the early story of the Bernardo family, who owned the related palace placed in Riva degli Schiavoni, a few steps far from Palazzo Ducale and St. Mark square. This palace, already depicted by the geographer Coronelli in his works, after the line of the Bernardo family that owned it died out, it was rented, and then ultimately in 1822 bought by the last tenant, Giuseppe Dal Niel, who converted it into a Hotel and renamed the property after his chosen nickname “Danieli”.
Since then this hotel become a ‘must’ place for the Grand Tour travelers.
