Oblong Folio (286x410mm.), 19th cent. brown half calf with corners, title in gold on spine, boards covered with marbled paper, internally clean and with good margins. Engraved bookplate of an English collection, 19th cent. Allegorical, architectural frontispiece, and 50 engraved plates by Marcus Sadeler, after Aegidius Sadeler.
Re-engraving of the views of Rome by the Flemish painter and engraver Aegidius Sadeler (1570-1629) first published in Prague in 1606, which in turn was a reproduction of Du Perac’s “I Vestigi dell’antichità di Roma”. The copperplate engravings show views of Roman ruins, temples, triumphal arches, the Palatine Hill, thermal baths and other buildings in Rome and the surrounding area. The first plate bears an engraved dedication to Johann Matthäus Wacker von Wackerfels. Thieme-B. XXIX, 301.
