TOSINI, ANDREA, and LAZZARI, ANTONIO – Oggetti più interessanti della R. Città di Venezia ossia Raccolta di novanta vedute.

Venice: s.n.t., 1833.

Obl. 4to (202×278 mm.), contemporary red cloth, with title “Venezia” impressed in gold on upper cover (binding a bit worn, hinges cracked but firm), internally in clean and bright condition. Engraved title-page, engraved index of views, and 90 fine aquatint plates, depicting the most suggestive places of Venice, finely executed by Antonio Lazzari
First and sole edition. Lazzari (Mestre 1798 – Venice 1834) was an Italian draftsman and engraver, who studied architecture under Giuseppe Antonio Selva, and engraving with Gio. Battista Cipriani. At the age of 27 he dedicated himself exclusively to “aquatint” engravings, as here, practically self-taught, reaching remarkable levels of perfection already praised in his time but which, according the bibliographer G. Moschini, caused him to worsen the disease which led to his death at the age of only 36. Not in Cicogna, Bibliogr. Veneziana, apparently unknown to Italian SBN online. Worldcat locates 2 copies in America, at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and Amherst College Library; OCLC 27156649, and 1202419536.
